Behavior Services
Students attend school to learn academic, social, organizational and vocational skills. For some students, however, maladaptive behavior interferes with this process and limits student achievement in the school environment. At School Steps, our team of Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) works collaboratively with the school team to develop a comprehensive plan to address maladaptive behavior in the school setting. Each plan is developed specifically for the student in need and his/her current classroom environment, and uses only research-based interventions.
Our team has years of experience addressing behaviors such as off-task behavior, non-compliance, aggression and self-injurious behavior in the classroom setting. Our BCBAs are interested in determining why a maladaptive behavior is occurring and developing behavior intervention plans accordingly. Plans are developed not only to decrease maladaptive behavior, but to also teach appropriate functional communication and replacement behaviors to the student in need.
Our BCBAs are thoroughly trained in the areas of applied behavior analysis, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), naturalistic teaching methods, TEACCH, social skills interventions, crisis prevention and crisis intervention. They also attend many continuing education events annually to meet the varying needs of local students.
